IIT Bombay was the second IIT to be established in 1958 with assistance from UNESCO and with funds contributed by the Soviet Union. UNESCO agreed to provide equipment and technical experts mainly from the Soviet Union, while the Government of India accepted the responsibility for all other expenses including the cost of the building project and recurring expenses.
IIT Bombay continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of science and technology in India in a number of ways. A bachelor's degree holders in Engineering/technology/architecture/pharmacy(4 years after 10+2) and those who are in the final or pre-final year of such programmes

Candidates with B.E./ B.Tech. or equivalent with first class or equivalent from a recognized Institution

Programmes of Study and Eligibility Requirements
B.Tech - 4 yrs
Candidates who have passed the final examination under the 10+2 system or its equivalent (or) a pass in the three year diploma in Engineering and who have been placed in the final merit list in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). JEE is a must for foreign national students also.
M.Tech - 2 yrs
Bachelor's degree in Engineering / Technology / Architecture or equivalent or a Mater's degree in Mathematics / Physics / Life Sciences / Related Subjects and a valid GATE score (for students who got degree from India).
M.Sc - 2 yrs
Bachelor's degree (a three year B.Sc. degree after 10+2) in Chemistry/Mathematics/Physics with first class or at least 60% of aggregate marks or equivalent and qualify in Joint Admission Test (JAM) (for students who got degree from India).
Ph.D - 2 - 5 yrs
Master's degree in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record or a Master's degree by Research in Engineering/Technology with a good academic record. Master's degree in Sciences with a good academic record and of exceptional merit where eligible, for the relevant Engineering discipline and a valid GATE score or qualified in NET (CSIR/ UGC)/NBHM/JMET/CAT/AIMA or equivalent.
